Are you saying we should keep an obsolete branch simply because a community for this game decided to? That's.....quite pointless to keep the current branch.
What makes Moons movies obsolete? Having better content. If something is faster it doesn't mean it's better. If you personally can't enjoy anything Super Metroid other than "GT code/game end", it doesn't mean all the rest branches of it are obsolete. We don't rely on absolutes anymore, only on statistics. What's so wrong with that?

Hint: if you upscale by factor 8 (encoding with x264), the file size will be much smaller. Aspect ratio correction can then be done via youtube tags. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=340333#340333 Watched the beginning of that encode. Without logo and subtitles it can't be used as an official youtuber.

No idea what made me read that post, but seeing my name there was 100% unexpected. You mean am I going to reject the run? For some improvement possibility? Seriously? Even without watching it, just by reading the comments, it's clear how much effort was put into this. I was even thinking of starring it, if it's decided which of the Sonic franchise stars can be moved. As for encode, the author can even host the HD encode that is officially linked from the publication page. I just need to upload the backup version to TVC, generate the description, and you will need to paste it as your upload description.

Here's the fixed version. Game Genie dialog floats around as long as you want, not pausing emulation. Also, sound gets cleared on breakpoints. http://feos-tas.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/Misc/Gens-Debug-GG.7z

Branches showcase approaches. Approaches can be abstracted out of huge amount of examples. Using "warp glitch" is an approach, and as long as it differs from the regular completion, it needs a label. If it's fastest possible (any%) or full completion (100%) it can be vaulted. All other branches only exist in Moons. Labels have little relation to tiers. What is a regular completion is explained in the guidelines.

Exactly. EDIT: well, maybe this one should be "warp glitch" since it doesn't jump to the ending directly.

[2084] GB The Addams Family "warp glitch" by NitroGenesis in 01:35.78 and yet that isn't labelled as such. Why? Is it because it's vaulted? Or is it because it warps to the last boss rather than the credits?
Y U overcomplicate? It's because I'm unaware of some runs that skip to end or warp to near the end. If you know more, tell.

Thanks. Then, I guess, all movies but 2 should keep the current labels. These 2 are: [2457] GB Pokémon: Blue Version "warp glitch" by MrWint in 28:07.28 and [950] SGB Pokémon: Blue Version "trainer escape glitch" by primorial_soup in 1:18:58.78. Primorial#soup's run avoids both approaches that cut the time the glitched way, and it doesn't have any regular goals that could increase the time, right? Sounds like "" to me (blank label, trunk, traditional completion). MrWint likely should be "warp glitch". p4wn3r's run should either remain "SRAM glitch", or become "game end glitch", not sure about the best system to apply these 2.

It's easy in Gens-rr and its branches (including the above mod). File -> Game Genie -> CODE -> "FF1234:0040" will virtually patch word $FF1234 to be 0x40. Note: the address must be to word (not FF1233 or FF1235) and the value word (not 40). Activate patches by leftclick, remove (in the mod) by rightclick. The only problem is that GG dialog can't hang open while emulating, but it can be fixed internally, if critical.

Renamed most of formerly "glitched" and "no foo glitch" runs without problems, but what about pokemons and final fantasy 4? http://tasvideos.org/movies.cgi?id=1840,950,2457 http://tasvideos.org/movies.cgi?id=2543,1149 FF4 is overall glitched to death, but what's the main thing that makes it so much faster? How it corrupts the memory? And pokemons, what is the exact set of movies that are considered one game? Only the ones I linked? How many of them use/avoid save corruption and glitched warps? What is the traditional completion type?

Trunk is not the fastest completion, but a run that doesn't have any special goals. Whatever goal is special is judged by the statistics. If some approach is only used in 1 run, and in 4 it's avoided, it's special, and needs a label. If it's used in 3, and 2 avoid it, neither is default. Super Metroid perfectly tells how it is supposed to work.

Are all improvements done? Also, what font do I need to install to see proper Japanese in the game? I installed SOME Japanese font and it doesn't help.

Since "any% no OoB" and "100%" would both be "no OoB", I'd leave that glitch for only 1 branch label - this one's.

Oh, very good. Just wanted to ask about improvements and now I see this :) BTW, what about this movie's branch? Seems it's some huge glitch finishing the game several minutes faster than expected. From the submission text, looks like a "game end glitch" to me.

That's the point. "default", "basic", "classic" are all traditional here. They are so common we aren't mentioning them. Remember how "aims for fastest time" category got retired? I'm sure it only takes people to understand that blank branch means "average", not any%, and all the rest just clicks. Because otherwise we would have to come up with all sorts of silly looking names as happened after retiring "glitched" the wrong way.

"never give up"... I remember Churchill's talking on this theme! Maybe I unconsciously do my runs, but now I'm convinced that even if I TAS a game on all rules (what actually I did before), people will find mistakes anyway!
Exactly. Over the 10 years, as this site exists, the average quality if TASes increased very much. What was okay 8 years ago wouldn't work now. 5 year old runs still stand. We have many skilled TASers that absolutize perfection. And the info base is always filled in, just look at threads for popular games. So I'd say, now it's really really hard to compete with these skilled players, unless you become one of them. Because when people spend months on one run (Tompa once spent 2 weeks on 1 saved frame), it's nearly impossible to make a run where no one would see flaws. But who is familiar with TASing has a feeling of what is good enough, and what is sloppy. Which is the border of acceptance here: it should be good enough. When a TAS is good enough? Not when the author says "I don't know how to improve", but when he says "I redid the levels several times, saving fames all the time, and now I don't know how to improve more". It's all about how much you redo. So don't be afraid to try redoing whatever is done (be it a room, or a kill) so many times that you are sure it's fastest. http://tasvideos.org/TasingGuide/TASArt.html

Yes, each system can have its port accepted, unless they are deliberately identical.
