ais523: I'm not sure how good I am at playing NetHack in an unentertaining way, though ais523: might have to recruit someone to help out MorphMoth: just think "what would a bad unassisted runner do?" Zeupar: well, if all your public were like me, it would be easy because I think any NetHack TAS would bore me heh ais523: MorphMoth: die

I like your style. 1 user posted irrelevant word. 1 user laughed at the fact the hack got wrecked. 1 user likes the hack. 5 users think the hack is incomplete/too short/has too little potential showcased. 1 user was entertained, but doesn't think it's publishable. 1 user got terrible impression. Sum: the movie was liked (59% is still quite borderline), the hack was not. Since the hack needs to be supported to be published, this one is going to be rejected. More questions? PS: I only can see 14 Yes votes over here. Where did you get TWELVE more?

The hack doesn't seem to impress much people. Which, regardless of how well the TAS is, leads to rejection if there won't be many people to like the hack in this thread.

Oh wow! Then we need some serious console recording! If anyone can, just let the intro play and demo start and end.

Script updated: Added damage to be caused to attack hitboxes. Check hitboxes (they actuvate when you press B, so while holding B you can shoot even close enemies) are in yellow, without damage. EDIT: Fixed yellow hitboxes to be drawn for everything that doesn't hurt.

@feos: I'm pretty sure, the sample "console.wav" you provided in your soundtest is actually from the Sonic Mega Collection, i.e. it's from an emulator and not from the original console.
I doubt games for SDA get recorded from emulators.

You don't mention which console you used for the console recording, and that's fairly important since the Genesis/Megadrive 2 is significantly different from the Gen/MD 1, enough that Sega provided both options in the recent 3DS re-release of Sonic 1.
It was from SDA run encode, so I have no idea. Don't own Genesis, otherwise I would provide more recordings.

I'd suggest you to submit this run and let Baxter judge it, but he can respond on it already, on whether it is worth submitting. And this movie will now reasonably be rejected.

Updated the script I posted above. Attack collision boxes now work. As can be seen, once you hit B, it checks close combat collisions and decides the attack by whether any object is close enough. Headshot failed :D EDIT: added subpixel positions.

A small test of how Sonic 1 sounds in: Gens-rr, Gens+GX under BizHawk, RetroArch and SDL frontend. http://rghost.ru/51130291 It's a bit interesting that while Gens-rr obviously has much high freqs, GPGXs differ from each other too! BizHawk and Retroarch sound nearly identically, but under SDL it has more low freqs and notably less high freqs. What can be a reason? EDIT: Added console recording. Sounds also almost identical to BH and Retroarch, but seems a bit more clear to me. BTW, first drumbeat pitch on console is closer to Gens-rr.

So Level here is difficulty? If it is an independent mode accessible from start, it may be vaultable, and we wold need to discuss quality instead.

Is it a single level run instead of a full game, or I am missing something?

I guess 72 hour deadline is too little to accept right away because of that.

TAStudio notes. 1. When I click a cell, selection detects the row properly and highlights it, while input is set on the wrong row. These 2 detections seem to need unification. 2. When rows are dragged through, with left button held, you don't need to check if the cursor passed through every cell. Since it seems to miss some, if mouse was dragged too quickly, it's safe to make it assume all the interim rows are also dragged through, as long as the left button was not released.

The displayed time will be total. Tails time alone can be easily written in the publication.

Not starting from a savestate shortens the actual Tails time, so it is a valid choice. But do we have precedents when part of the very movie was counted as verification/unlocking and dropped from the official time? If no, the whole time of this movie must count, including obsoletion attempts. But in our case, obsoletions are decided by entertainment too, so technically Sonic time must be not slower unless on purpose.

So you still need hit type prediction, right?
