Emil_Borg I have one question about the goal for "Best Score". You stated that you wish to complete this in as few strokes as possible, but is this method also the fastest way to complete the game? Or is there another faster method of beating this game with more strokes?
I think it's slower if you aim for Par. In hindsight, I should have matched it with the Neo Turf Masters TAS https://tasvideos.org/5874M
So just to verify this submission would be equivalent to an Any% aka Fastest Completion?

Lua script to test the continuous jumping in mid air. *https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/638532977675725167 BaconOmelette found this bug that allows continuous jumping in mid air and we have been testing it out. This lua script will test for when it is possible to continually jump in mid air. It seems to occur when you go onto an elevator or when Joe Musashi somehow ends up being pushed down inside a moving platform. Then jumping and attacking is possible in a loop among other actions like running. If someone else wants tackle this to find improvements to the current routes or alternative spots to activate this go ahead. You could join us in the Shinobi discord linked below if you wish. The current tas features several spots where this state is active. with the script running it should be obvious in the section with the sludge area in the BioWeapon level in particular. Shorter example on the long elevator section in 2-1. 1. Eldest Souls Arena boss fight game with a pretty complex powerup and abilities that work well together. Very well controlled movement and responsiveness. The hurdle that prevented the game from becoming more popular was its overall demanding difficulty. Liked it enough to do a speedrun of this game a while back as well. Unfortunately this game will not be ported to Linux. But throwing this one the pile in case some new technology comes along to tas it. https://www.speedrun.com/eldest_souls/runs/y4xjxo3z
  2. Steel Assault Platformer with a unique rail type ability that allows interesting movement and attacks. Plays well and apparently works on Linux according to devs. Although that may be through that Steam thing, and not an actual port. https://www.speedrun.com/steel_assault/runs/y27r676z
  3. Carrion Unusual Metroidvania that is kind of like katamari damacy and a stealth takedown game. As the "carrion" you gather up biomass from defeated foes while trying to escape the facility. Seems like speedrunners have found some skips and glitches over the years to bring the time down to around 17 minutes. Unknown linux port situation. https://www.speedrun.com/carrion/runs/y98p32vz
  4. Furi Another Arena boss battle game, but this time a well known and popular one. Fast paced with a great soundtrack, cool cyberpunky artwork, and that plays well. 2016 release game and not seeing a Linux port. https://www.speedrun.com/furi/runs/yll37qxy
  5. Strider [2014] Excellent remake of the original strider with more modern mechanics that make use of modern controller and gameplay features. Easy game to recommend and would make a fun tas to watch imo. https://www.speedrun.com/strider2014/runs/kz54qv5m
  6. Shinobi Non Grata Basically a love letter to games like Ninja Spirit and boss rush games like Alien Soldier, this is one my recent favorites. https://www.speedrun.com/shinobi_non_grata/runs/z5k8g7dz

I don't know how possible it would be but I would love to see a Broforce TAS one day.
Broforce would be a good one too. It has those random character selections and some are way better than others for certain levels.

https://www.speedrun.com/solstice_quest_for_the_staff_of_demnos/runs/z0343d9z RTA WR is 5:36. So it does look like an update is about due where the tas has a 5:38. Though rta rules start timer on start button on intro.

It seems you get stars for completing certain objectives in the various stages, so to me, it's more an "all levels" TAS rather than a full completion (100%) one. After all, it doesn't complete a fair amount of them, even if all stages are played.
Changing goal to All Levels. There is only one unlock-able which is a plane you get when you beat all levels which requires beating all the bonus levels plus the final stage. "All Levels" does seems to fit better, since maybe in the future there would be someone would would want to get all the stars. Even though getting all stars would be not very fun since it would mean not using any specials vastly increasing each level completion time.

The current tas for Shinobi Legions is optimal as far as I know. However very recently 31 March 2024 an article was posted describing a code to activate a debug mode. Saw this article in the shinobi speedrunning server today. This code that unlocks a debug mode was found for Shinobi Legions that requires a 40 button input sequence with specific options set. Which explains why this would not be found via normal gameplay. Perhaps info gained from this could be used to learn new time saves. https://32bits.substack.com/p/under-the-microscope-shinobi-legions

So right now this submission lacks precise magnitude inputs. Look at the video below where I decrease the magnitude of how hard I release Mario so he smoothly and quickly glides into the hole. Mario visually enters the hole on frame 446, while my Mario enters the hole on frame 390. At this point in time I would recommend pausing this submission and reviewing this for improvements. Please be gentle with Mario's holes. Link to video

This is the visual style that Skutnik created for the Daymare series. That is not a good comment to make about someone's visual style.
Am I not allowed any criticism of art? Any statements on artistic merits are all subjective. IMO it is not colored, it lacks detail, and a lot of pieces look like parts of the background so it is hard to tell what is what. So I do not like the art.

Woah! This is really good! I enjoyed all the clipping, enemy manipulations, and good positioning on the platforming parts. Also those 3d graphics for the old man at the end made me laugh a lot. Yes vote!

Looks like the lion's share of time saves over RTA WR are doing the puzzles and last boss much faster. Are there any tas only tricks for this game? https://www.speedrun.com/darkwing_duck_turbografx-16/runs/zq0j848y

What a weird game, was not sure what happening most of the time so without the tas description I would have been lost. Love the car rocketing off into space, and "Cash would be nice!" in response to asking how someone could repay them. Yes vote.

I would encourage you to take a look at the existing Sonic tases on this site. There a lot of tricks to go fast! I would not mind watching this tas normally since you do some stuff that makes me chuckle like walking through the bouncing pad in Casino, but when it comes to tas it usually comes down to either speed and/or entertainment. If you were able to maybe focus exclusively on entertainment alongside tightening up sections to be much faster this might work well. Although as others noted this romhack might not be a good choice so maybe take a look at the original games or more extensive well known romhacks.

A couple questions. 1) Which version was this tas made on? I see that v1, v2, v3, v4, v5, and v5.5 exist. 2) How precise can you change the angles? I see that you have a lot of circling around the hole at the end on almost every stage. Could you not just precisely aim at the hole and get Mario in the Hole asap? 3) Can you control Mario at all after "releasing" him towards the hole? 4) Can the camera be controlled?

I think this is not a good romhack choice for a submission because I do not recognize anything different visually or gameplay wise from the original Super Mario Bros tas.

Interesting looking game. It seems like there is a heavy emphasis on music, but I suppose beating it as fast as possible means we don't get to hear all the tracks. The graphics look unfinished and the start of the game has no sound besides the screen skips which are the downsides. Although for a short flash game is kept me entertained. Yes vote.

  1. Fight'N Rage My favorite beat em up besides Streets of Rage 2. Does not look like there is a Linux port atm. There is a Switch version but that does not have tas tools atm. 3 player co-op. Special moves and combos. https://www.speedrun.com/fightnrage?h=Ricardo_Arcade-Normal-Normal_Speed-PC&x=w20we65d-j84k15wn.p125pxk1-p8590r3n.jqz69xm1-ylp6q7vn.0q5wedmq
  2. Astebreed : Definitive Edition One of my favorite shooters. A anime style mech shooter that alternates between left to right, from behind, and down to up. Does not have a Linux port atm. Also has a Switch version. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1051823006?t=0h0m1s&tt_content=twitch_logo&tt_medium=embed
  3. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Excellent Castlevania type game. Does not seem to have a Linux port as well. On android and switch too. https://www.speedrun.com/bsrotn
  4. Blaster Master Zero 3 (2021) An new version with similar gameplay to the original series. Has the tank mode as well as the human walking around. Some really good boss fights. Like the others works on Proton but no Linux port, also on 3DS and Switch. https://www.speedrun.com/bmz3
  5. Valfaris One of my favorite platformers. Great "heavy metal" aesthetic too with heavy metal guitar tracks. Again no linux port afaik, but also on Switch and...Amazon Luna? https://www.speedrun.com/valfaris
  6. Valfaris Mecha Therion Another mech shooter in that same "heavy metal" aesthetic. However it mixes shooter elements with unlocking weapons, sub weapons, alongside upgrades. too with heavy metal guitar tracks. Unknown linux status, but also on switch. https://www.speedrun.com/Valfaris_Mecha_Therion
  7. Cuphead Awesome but difficult boss battle only run and gun game in an early 1900s cartoon style. Unknown linux port status. Also on macOs and switch. https://www.speedrun.com/cuphead

Try to improve one section with the death skip trick. Then see how well the rest syncs.

No encode so just checking. Is this the same game? B-Wings (NES) any% speedrun in 23:40 Link to video If so this player was able to beat B-Wings for NES faster than this tas.

Actually, I am agree with Winslinator on this one. "Let's also not forget about Olympic-style games like NES Track & Field "max score, playaround", where many events give you three attempts, saving only the best score/time." If that final scoreboard actually totaled all the yardage and gave a score then I would say every round would have to be maxed. Here it is literally just taking the max score for all the "heats".
